On June 3, 1938 Fr. Saylor died of a heart attack and Fr. Frank Bertram became our new pastor. More organizations were established during the late 1930s under the guidance of our new pastor. Festivals, raffles, and feather parties continued as fund raisers for the parish.

Fr. Bertram had drawn up plans for a convent but was transferred before work began. Fr. Leo J. Trese arrived in 1941 as the new pastor and immediately began construction on the planned convent.

As more classrooms were needed in the school and the convent was not yet ready, an old farmhouse on Allen Road was purchased as a temporary home for the sisters. After they moved into their new convent in February of 1942, the priests, who had been renting a house on Henry Street, moved into the Allen Road house until such time as a new rectory could be built.

The parish was growing in numbers and size so much that a mission parish was established in Taylor. On July 25, 1943 Mass was celebrated for the first time at St. Alfred Mission Parish. It became an established parish in 1945.

Because of poor health, Fr. Trese was transferred on November 18, 1945 and Fr. Raymond F. Buhl was assigned as pastor. Fr. Buhl established a series of weekly bingo games and other fund-raising projects to raise money to repair and expand the parish facilities.
